A great lady has gone. A candle gone out. My gran A great lady has gone. A candle gone out. My grandma, our matriarch. She left us early this morning, calmly, elegantly, in no hurry, savouring every breath - which is how she did everything in her 96 years. I was blessed to know her, to have her watch over me, for 50 of those. The nurses say she even watched me at the BAFTAs on Sunday night. She loved a movie, but she was probably the only person who would rather hear me talk about them than watch them. She was my biggest fan. She had many more fans herself. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Her love lives on today and forever. I'll remember her in livelier days, of which we enjoyed many until quite recently, when we shared whisky and when she smiled at the next generation of children she inspired. I kissed her cheek for the last time around 2am, her skin soft as ever, perfectly cool. Time now for the family she created and held together for so many years to hug and continue the love she taught us. It will be beautiful, through tears. Goodbye Grandma - chicken soup will never taste quite the same again. #grandma
