Fela Kuti – Shakara

Queen & Slim has one of the best soundtracks around at the moment, bursting with cool classics and right on point with contemporary voices such as Cedes Benz by The Dream and even a new track from Lauryn Hill. Devonte Hynes (Blood Orange) has done the score, and it’s perfect. But I’m going for one needle-drop in the movie that seems to sum up the rebel spirit of the soundtrack and the movie – that of Fela Kuti, whose dirty, sexy, revolutionary funk protest music is what it’s all about, and his awesome Shakara, one of the original Afrobeat tracks, with Tony Allen on drums.
