Win one of Jason’s favourite Italian Movies Ever – on Blu-ray

Thanks to those brilliant people at Eureka!, we’ve got two copies to give away of the newly-minted Blu-Ray of Visconti’s Rocco and His Brothers.

This is one of my favourite Italian movies EVER – rough, raw, sexy and thrillingly emotional. It’s about a family of five brothers who move from the blighted rural south to seek a better life in metropolitan Milan. However, the city’s pressures and temptations work their wretched effects on their loves, dreams and lives.

If it sounds a bit torrid, well, that’s Italian neorealism for you, with all its street life and opera, its boxing, breakdowns and tears.

It’s a quite magnificent movie still, with remarkably powerful turns from Alain Delon as the selfishly selfless Rocco, Renato Salvatori, tart-with-heart Annie Girardot (in real life, these two stars fell in love on set and married in 1962) and a young Claudia Cardinale. And there’s a typically lyrical Nino Rota score that soars and dives to match the heart’s palpitations.

And indispensable, mighty classic of world cinema, then, just for you.

For your chance to win just like the post on Facebook.

This competition closes on Sunday 20th March at midday.
