Every cinephile’s dream, this cracking little doc is about the legendary meeting between Alfred Hitchcock and eager young director Francois Truffaut.
The meeting became the subject of a classic film book by Truffaut, which this film, by Kent Jones, now argues is as significant a work as any of Truffaut’s movies, before or since.
As you can hear in my podcast with Kent Jones, this documentary recruits equally important film makers from today’s film firmament, who were influenced by the book, by Hitchcock and by Truffaut – David Fincher, Richard Linklater, Martin Scorsese on the American side; Olivier Assayas and Arnaud Desplechin on the French side – both of these will be at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the former in Competition, the latter as a member of the Jury…
Class acts abound in this DVD, so of course we offer it up for grabs for you, in conjunction with our fabulous friends at Dogwoof. To win one of three copies, simply answer the following question:
In which year did Francois Truffaut persuade Alfred Hitchcock to sit with him for the week-long interview?
Please send your answer to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Competition closes on Wednesday 4th May at midday.
