Cathy Brady’s debut film Wildfire boasts fierce performances from Nora-Jane Noone and the late Nika McGuigan as sisters re-united after a lengthy estrangement. Set in an Irish border town, the backdrop of Brexit tensions and the long-simmering troubles mirror a shifting mistrust between the rejuvenated sisters’ behaviour and the local community.

It’s a turbulent film, emotionally and physically, raw in its treatment of mental health and small town secrets, yet bursting with visual poetry and intense flashes of colour amid the grey realism.
