The Clovers – One Mint Julep

Tune of the Week is this beautiful slice of 1950s pop doo-wop by The Clovers – One Mint Julep, which forms part of the excellent soundtrack to Todd Haynes’ Carol.

All sorts of good stuff on there, from Eddie Fisher and Perry Como and Billie Holiday with the Teddy Wilson Orchestra, but the Clovers’ 1952 hit stands out for me and captures that heady rush of falling in love despite yourself, how one little thing can just “spark the whole shooting-match off”, as Larkin later described it in Wild Oats.
