Have you heard the one about the handsome French film maker, the nervous Oxford don and the female rabbi? This was the cast of the panel I was faced with in the unusual surrounds of the Imperial War Museum for the UK release of war movie Alone in Berlin. The panel discussion was being beamed live to 100 cinemas around the UK after the screening. It might have looked an unwieldy mix, but everyone got their turn and the discussion flowed beautifully. The Oxford don was a revelation on his first live appearance, the rabbi was effervescent and wise and the director, former heart-throb actor Vincent Perez, won the audience over with sensitive recollections of his family’s connections to the war. We even had space to read out live, tweeted questions from audience members in Leeds and Brighton.
